WELCOME MY FRIEND!

Hey there, I’m Tricia – founder of Teachers on the Road to Hygge

And the first thing you need to know is…

I’m an educator too

In fact, I left the corporate world to be a teacher (I know, I know – waaaaa?!?!) Yep I did.

Like you, I wake up at the crack of stinking dawn…and no, not to get a workout in – just to get to work.

I arrive to school some days looking all shiny and new and by noon, I look like I was standing on the curb on a rainy day and the school bus drove through a giant puddle, soaking me with mud.

I wonder if today will be the day I don’t make it to the bathroom on time.

All that other stuff that makes you want to quit? Yeah I know about all of that too.

Here’s what I don’t have to tell you about life as an educator:

It can Wear. You. Out…mentally and physically. Until you have nothing left to give.

It doesn’t have to be this way!

Stop laughing! It really doesn’t.

You CAN go to work each day to a room you love, work fewer hours and get more done – then put it all aside and have the energy for that crazy home life that is all yours! And…you’ll be able to make time to rest & rejuvenate.

Students WILL work hard for you and themselves, want to show up to your class because they see the value in it, actually enjoy it, and reach the high standards you set.

I’m going to make sure of it.

It’s all about classroom management, student engagement and a little bit of Hygge

You might be wondering what qualifies me to make that promise.

I’ve been at this for a while. When I started teaching, I was so bothered that students just didn’t seem to care.

These silly teens thought they could just not turn things in. Or, that they could turn assignments in half done just so they could get a passing grade. And the one that drives me most crazy, that students thought they could answer questions the quickest way possible instead of the best way.

The struggle was real! I couldn’t figure out if they actually didn’t know how to do the work and needed help, or if they were just lazy and didn’t really care. This just wasn’t going to work and I had to fix it, or quit.

CONQUERING THIS WOULD MEAN THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CHANGE MY STUDENTS MINDSETS AND LEARNED BEHAVIORS. AND, THAT WAS A TOUGH ONE.

After years of working in a broken system, I’ve perfected my own. I’ve learned to listen, then shut out the noise and the door to do what’s best for my students and myself.

I’ve created a successful step-by-step classroom management process where students do the messy work and learn more.

Students are engaged, choose to show up and work hard each day and leave college and career ready. My students are respectful to me, their peers and our room.

It works.

While I sometimes go against the grain of the current practices, it works. No one can argue that.

All students, including those from low socioeconomic areas, with low expectations, held to the highest of standards, can succeed.

Equally important, there is a constant flow of former students who come back to thank me for pushing them beyond what they thought they could do and for caring enough to keep things real and teach them about life.

Mrs. Blevens pushes her students to reach high expectations. Her students accomplish beyond what they think they can achieve due to her dedication to her students and their learning. Mrs. Blevens is an innovative teacher.

I have learned more in this class than any other classes. I feel so comfortable and at ease here and love how much you value each of us.

She treats us like adults, holds us accountable and makes the work valuable and limited. We want to be present so we won’t miss on the information SHE gives.

Here’s the thing…If I can do this, you can too. And wait until you see the difference it makes in your life!

Speaking of your life…

I have my life back. And my time.

I’ll show you how too.

You’ll love your job again; feel happy to put in a full week’s worth and not drag your worn-out self out the door on Friday afternoon.

That crazy home life that is all yours? You’re going to have energy for and truly love it, have time to refresh, recenter and be ready to do it all over.

Students will want to come to your class and be engaged. They will hold themselves to high standards and will work hard for you.

Side Note: If you’re wondering about Hygge…it’s a Danish term pronounced hue-guh or even hooga. There is no English word for it. Basically it’s taking a deep dive into learning about yourself, really understanding what feeds your soul/spirit, then knowing how to surround yourself with it in your home/work/etc… To me, the closest thing to it we have is the word contentment…only a little deeper.
